I live and work in New Bern, North Carolina, which is a town well known for its' historical relevance, its unique location between two major rivers, and its' close proximity to the beautiful Crystal Coast.

There's plenty of downtown shopping, art galleries, gift shops, restaurants, bars, museums, tours and of course stately Tryon Palace, now with the addition of the North Carolina History Center.

I love it here, and about the only time I leave is to drive down to the coast for relaxation, photography, or fishing, over to Raleigh (for the city stuff), and occasionally up to the NC mountains, to catch those beautiful fall leaves changing.

Single Image Version of HDR

Many times it seems impossible to capture multiple exposures of a specific subject. Other times there is just too much movement to expect to be able to "sync" multiple images. And, then there are those favorite images from the past that one may wish they had captured in multiple exposures. What to do? Can an HDR image be created from a single exposure? Well, yes and no. There are a few routines, out there, and there are a couple "actions" sets available (to use with Photoshop). One just needs to Google around until something appropriate is found. Here's a method using Photoshop and Photomatix 3.0. With any HDR image, at least 3 exposures are needed, so this is my work-around workflow: I duplicate the original image twice, in the layers palette. I then make a lighter version and a darker version, using the levels slider and exposure sliders, under image adjustments in Photoshop. Under scripts, I then choose "export layers as files", and that gives me the 3 exposures necessary. I then load them into Photomatix, process it, and spend some time in ToneMapping within Photomatix. Additional smoothing may be needed.
